“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11
The world has dived into series of distress country after country; we are witnessing political, economic and social shut down. Fear is lurking all around. It is undeniable that the whole world is hanging on a string. The Corona virus is making headlines. In the midst of all these one would want to pause and wonder, what is God trying to tell the world and me in particular? What role do I have to play now and after this pandemic? Is God really in charge? It appears as if the body of Christ is in the same state of mind as Thomas was before he saw the resurrected Jesus. And yet amidst all these, there is hope.
Hope is the only thing that can keep us afloat and the Bible reminds us in Jeremiah 29:11. No matters what is happening around us: God has it under control. Isaiah 55: 8-9 reminds us that “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts”.
Things may look gloomy in the natural, but God is still at work in the heavenly realms, we may not fully comprehend what is happened, but we can trust him for he has a plan and a way out for us. “But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.” Martin Luther King, Jr. This quote makes so much sense today. As beautiful as the stars look, there is a prerequisite and a particular window for them to shine. I believe in this season many will discover their gifts and talents and will have a new direction in their lives. At times we need a disruption from our norm to call for our attention to what is essential.
Romans 5: 5 “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us”. We can trust the Holy Spirit to take us to new horizons if only we can accept to lose sight of the shore. Whenever you start losing hope and fear is rising up, remember the song “if the sea breaks loose”
